Jasmine Belle Cafe

On a Rainy Day....

So I'm usually pretty good about remembering my keys before work in the mornings. But today's weather was so gloomy, I did not want to get out of bed and felt like totally out of it all day. I couldn't wait to get home after work, change into sweatpants and either take a nap or watch a movie. I got to my front door after walking off bus with a semi-broken umbrella, frantically digging through my bag to realize I had forgotten my keys, and there was no one home!

Well, this was an opportunity to try the cafe that opened up in my neighbourhood a few months ago!  I had noticed the sign and renovations of Jasmine Belle Cafe before it opened, but never thought much about it. However, my cousin visited the cafe in late March, and I was surprised to hear it was a Vietnamese / French Fusion Cafe. I thought to myself " I have to try this place out now".

Anyways, I walked into the cafe and found it super cute inside! It's not super big, but the bright coloured walls and lighting brightened up my mood from the weather. Their menu had the regular cafe basics : The expresso drinks such as Cappuccinos, Lattes, Mochas, Vietnamese Coffee;  a large range of teas ; and hot chocolate. To my surprise, they also had Bubble Tea too. Since it was  cold outside though, I was leaning towards the hot drinks.

I was super overwhelmed with many goods on the counter top, and their food menu that included breakfast items, Pho, Vietnamese Subs, a few French food items ( that I didn't pay much attention to 🙏) , crepes and the thing that drew my attention: Belgian Waffles. I was hungry after work anyways, and my sweet tooth was calling!

The girl at the counter could tell I was indecisive, and gave me suggestions on what was popular for drinks.  I was debating between Vietnamese coffee and a simple Latte, and she won me over with the Latte by saying they do Latte art. I'm a sucker for cute things and figured Vietnamese Coffee at 5pm was probably going to keep me up all night since's so strong anyways.  I got a large size, which was a pretty decent size, considering it arrived before my waffle, and the mug was still half full when I finished the waffle.

Indecisiveness hit me again with the Waffle though. They have both savoury and sweet options, but because my sweet tooth, the sweet option was the obvious choice. They actually had way more options for waffle toppings than they had written on their chalkboard though. On top of the listed flavours of chocolate and strawberry, the girl at the counter listed options such as melon, banana, and wild berry as well. Berries are my favourite types of fruit, so I went with that.

I found it really cute how the syrup for the waffle came in a tiny mason jar that said  "Mason Jar" on the front, and I actually ended up pouring the whole thing on my waffle. I like how it is up to the customer to decide how much syrup they would like on their waffle though, because I do have days where I don't want to be eating something too overly sweet.

Overall, I quite enjoyed this cute little cafe. I rarely eat at restaurants / cafes on 118 Ave, but this place was a nice edition to the area, and it's in walking distance from my house. Maybe next time when the weather is nice again, I'll try their bubble tea. It will be closer than going downtown!!
